E-Commerce 1.0
Introduction to E-Commerce
What to Expect
1.a) A typical e-store home page. |
Shoppers
Your concept heaven e-store has been custom built to provide simple, yet effective, functionality for both business owners (the administrators) and end-users (the customer).
Fig. 1.a how a typical e-store homepage may look (the home page may vary slightly depending on the functionality you have requested). Customers to the store may navigate products and gift certificates available for purchase via the left side navigation. The navigation bar will also allow them to checkout from any page of the store, move back to the home page, etc.
We have worked hard to ensure that the customer’s experience on your site will be simple, intuitive, and safe. Unlike our previous e-store setup, customers will not have to create an account to make a purchase; instead, they will follow a few simple steps to add items to their 'cart', provide their billing, shipping*, and payment information, and finally confirm their purchase. The Checkout process is protected by industry standard 128bit SSL encryption, ensuring that the customer’s personal and payment details are secure. During this process the e-store system is recording all the relevant data that the customer provides along with important tracking data that will provide you with statistics regarding which pages that she or he viewed during their visit.
When a customer completes a transaction they are instantly provided with a printable invoice. If you have the Instant Gift Certificate feature installed in your store, the customer will also be able to view and print their Gift Certificate immediately after her or his purchase is complete. Then, the store owner and the customer will receive an email confirmation regarding the transaction.
*Except in cases where they are buying an Instant Gift Certificate (if you have that feature installed), where they will not have to provide shipping information. |
1.b) A typical Administrator Panel page. |
Administrators
As an Administrator you will have access to Orders, Gift Certificates*, Customer Details, Shipping Options and Store Statistics. Fig 1.b shows an example of a typical Administrator Panel screen.
Any orders received will be listed in the Order Manager. The list of orders contains options to view the invoice, see the customer details, update the order status (paid, cancelled, declined etc.), Gift Certificate status* and edit the order if required. As an administrator you may also set your shipping methods and rates at any time.
All of the data displayed in the Administrator Panel is sorted according to various criteria in order to allow quick and clear display of important information.
*Gift Certificate options are only visible on e-stores with Instant Gift Certificate functionality installed.
